Forge Update Number 1: Beacon WIP

Howdy folks, how's everybody doing?

This week (and for quite a few weeks before this) I've been beavering away forging competetive maps. So far I've got 5 up to the 'unfinished' level - the geometry is in place and everything runs nicely, but there's no spawns for some, and some only work on certain gametypes etc. etc.

I'm particularly proud, however, of what I see to be my strongest map thus far - Beacon.

The basic idea is a symmetrical, small map, set floating in the oceans off the coast of Forge world. Two bases face each other, and there are essentially 3 different paths between the bases - left, right, and middle (which splits into two tiers).

I'm not very good at describing maps, so I'm going to let the screenshots do this part of the talking.

So as you can see, there are the two bases on left and right, each with their own sniper tower and sniper rifle, and the three paths. The middle temple building can be accessed in a few ways - firstly, you can access it directly from the base via the high path. Secondly, you can access it from either middle section on the two left/right paths, and then finally you can take the grav-lifts up to it to claim your prize of the sword.

Of course, the sword isn't the only power weapon present in the map - positioned underneath it is the rocket launcher, in one of the few totally indoor areas of the map. On either side platform rests a shotty and some plasmas, and there are about 10 DMRs scattered evenly about the map.

The whole idea behind it is for frenetic, fast-paced action with only a few people. For now it only supports team slayer, but hopefully in a few days I'll have another update, a playtest and perhaps even some screenshots of my more... Absent fun maps, such as Plasma Tennis.

So I leave you for now with another screenshot of Beacon in all its blue glowy glory:

Tara for now gentlemen!
